November 25, 2009, Curt and I used to run the antenna field in Okinawa; then slip out on Torii Beach for some beach-combing. he would take his Irish Setter pup with him, and usually wind up having to carry him home. Curt was a good soldier, a reliable friend, a patriot, and will be missed by all. ASA always; once a Duffy, always a Duffy. And one to count cadence ... Steve Whitaker, Sparks, Nevada

November 24, 2009, Carol, I offer my condolences upon this sad occasion. I only knew Curt at Ft. Devens when he was a student, but I know all Duffies will miss him. Charles H "Chuck: Daniels

November 22, 2009, Carol, my most sincere condolences on the passing of Curt. I can still remember us serving together in the "Box" at Torii Station, Okinawa. My fondest memory of Curt was when the trick came off of mids and met at the beach for a picnic, etc. I was on a paddle boat with someone, maybe Steve Whitaker or Charlie Yanagawa,and we had just passed Curt who was snorkeling as we headed for shore. All of a sudden, Curt was swimming past us like a man possessed. Once he reached shore, he leaped up and down screaming, "Habu, Habu in the water!" You may remember that a Habu was a black sea snake whose bite was fatal. Thing was, its fangs were so soft, it could only bite really soft flesh, so humans were rarely bitten. It was the fastest I had ever seen Curt move, and to this day wish I had notified the Guinness Book World Records. I pray for you and your family in your time of sorrow. Bill McGuire, Bryan, Texas

November 22, 2009, Poppe Family our hearts go out to you we are so sorry for your loss, we served in Okinawa with Curt and know he will be missed. Gary and Peggy Baasch, Centennial, Colorado

November 22, 2009, Carol I do not have the words to express my sympathy. I wish Curt and I could have met because, in addition to the ASA, we had a lot in common. Every life is eventually distilled to memories and I know you and your family will forever cherish every one. God Bless You. Jim Ketchum, San Dimas, California

=====================Internet Entries=====================

From: Barbara Hill, 11/19/2009, 4:36PM CST: Carol called me at around 5:20 this evening. Curt passed away around 5:15 today. Tomorrow Carol and the boys meet with the funeral director in Hickory to make arrangements there. Once a small memorial service is held Curt will be cremated and Carol and boys will take Curt back to Wisconsin so his family can have a memorial service for him there and have closure.

20091119, Glenn Murray: Just lost another good friend this evening. We were in the service together and he was one of the individuals that was injured in the explosion and fire in the factory at Garner NC a few months ago. Say an extra prayer for his wife and children tonight even though you don't know him.

20091119, Vickie Spivey Williams: We're brothers and sisters in Christ. Sorry for your loss. Will lift this family up in my prayers. Take care.

20091119, Stan Perdue: Curt was a friend of mine. My sympathies to the family.

20091119, Rhonda Crawford: "Carol and the family are in mine & Tim's prayers. Even tho I didn't serve with him, we all lost a family member when we lost Curt."

20091119, Ed Joos: I am sorry to hear that my friend. We pray that his wife will understand that God loved him and he will be with the Father. My full consolations go out to her.

20091119, Stephen Hill to Glenn Murray: yeah, it sucks. The three of us shared some great times.

20091129, Cameron Jones: Curt, Rest in peace friend. We had just re-connected, and I was looking forward to getting together for a little fishing before this all happened, guess that will have to wait awhile. You are a good friend and comrade in arms, and one day we'll get a chance to cast a line together.

20091129, Timothy Allen Poppe: Well big brother, I am at a loss for words. I can't believe that you are gone. Life will be different without you here, although I know in spirit you are. Funny how life works. You're supposed to live to a ripe old age and then go in your sleep. Not suffer for 6 months. Don't know what else to say except, say Hi to Mom and Bette for me. Give them a big hug and kiss. Love you... Tim.

Rest in Peace My Friend.
